K2 hub tooth failures
One of the most expensive AS69RC failures is the K2 clutch hub “grenading” and taking hard parts with it.
The StreetMonster build swaps in a billet nitride-coated K2 hub that resists tooth wear and
spalling, dramatically reducing the chance of catastrophic failure in high-GVWR tow and commercial duty.
Clutch strategy & line pressure
Rather than cramming in aggressive clutch counts that ruin shift quality, the AS69RC build retains
stock counts with upgraded frictions and a recalibrated valve body. The increased line pressure
improves holding power under load while keeping the familiar Aisin shift feel your drivers expect.
Cooling, leaks & gaskets
Heat and leakage are enemies of any medium-duty automatic. Nitrile pan and PTO gaskets replace
leak-prone OEM cork gaskets, helping keep fluid in the unit instead of on the driveway.
Pair that with a quality external cooler and clean lines, and your AS69RC is far better prepared for
long grades and heavy trailers.
Installation checklist (quick hits)
- Flush or replace cooler & lines until you verify clean, strong return flow.
- Verify converter is fully seated before pulling the transmission up to the engine.
- Use the correct flexplate, hardware, and torque sequence for your 6.7L Cummins.
- Set fluid level warm using the proper AS69RC fill/check procedure.
- Recheck for leaks around the pan and PTO covers after the first few heat cycles.
Fluid, relearn & towing strategy
Start with a fresh fill of full synthetic ATF that meets your Aisin spec. After install,
ease the truck through a careful drive cycle that rolls through each gear and allows controlled coastdowns.
Avoid full-load towing until the transmission has gone through several heat cycles and the control module
has had time to adapt to the fresh build and converter.
AS69RC FAQs (More Depth)
Is the AS69RC better than a 68RFE for heavy work?
For Ram HD work trucks and haulers, the AS69RC is generally preferred thanks to its medium-duty roots.
A properly built StreetMonster AS69RC with the billet K2 hub and converter upgrades is an excellent foundation
for towing, RV, and commercial use.
Can I daily drive and tow with this build?
Yes. The goal of this package is work-first reliability with clean, predictable shifting.
It is designed for trucks that see both around-town driving and serious trailer time.
What’s the best way to protect my new AS69RC?
Keep it cool, keep it clean, and don’t lug it. Run a quality external cooler, change fluid on schedule,
and downshift on long grades instead of letting the converter slip endlessly under heavy load.
