Cooling & fluid
Heat is the enemy. Flush or replace the cooler and lines, verify strong return flow, and use a low-restriction auxiliary cooler for heavy use or hot climates. Run fresh, high-quality ATF per builder guidance and recheck level at temperature.
Converter matching
Stall that’s too low can lug the combo; too high overheats. We include a matched converter based on weight, rear gear, tire, and engine torque curve for crisp launches and drivability.
Gearing with a non-overdrive
TH400 is a robust 3-speed. Choose rear gears with cruise rpm and tire size in mind. For mixed street/strip, a balanced rear gear avoids excessive cruise rpm while keeping the engine in its happy range out of the hole.
Installation checklist (quick hits)
- Flush/replace cooler & lines; confirm strong return flow
- Fill with quality ATF; set level warm per procedure
- Verify converter is fully seated before install
- Check kickdown switch/solenoid function (application dependent)
- Recheck fasteners & leaks after first heat cycles

Do I need programming?
No external TCM learn required. Ensure kickdown switch/solenoid wiring is correct if your vehicle uses it.
What fluid should I use?
Use a high-quality ATF suitable for your build and climate. We can advise based on your use case.
How do I pick the right converter?
We’ll select stall and build details from your engine torque, weight, gears, tire, and intended use.
