Why Choose Monster for Your Dodge / Chrysler 62TE

  • Built as an OE-plus RoadReady replacement for minivans, crossovers, and select Ram ProMaster models—not a basic junkyard rebuild.
  • Targets known 62TE pain points like underdrive sealing ring leaks, noisy transfer-unit bearings, and worn park/front planetary components.
  • Includes a heavy-duty torque converter matched to real-world driving: daily commuting, family hauling, and light towing.
  • Backed by strong coverage (3-Year Monster warranty plus 3-Year Extend coverage when activated) and Monster tech support if you have questions.

What vehicles use the 62TE?

The 62TE 6-speed automatic is found in many front-wheel-drive Chrysler and Dodge vehicles (Town & Country, Grand Caravan, Journey, some Chrysler 200/Avenger applications) and certain Ram ProMaster vans. We’ll verify fitment by VIN and application. Note: This build does not fit ProMaster City models.

Is this a performance build or stock replacement?

The RoadReady 62TE is an OE-plus replacement focused on reliability and drivability. It uses updated parts in critical areas but is tuned for stock or mild usage, not aggressive racing builds.

Do I need programming after install?

Yes. The 62TE relies on adaptive learning. After install, a quick-learn or drive-cycle relearn is recommended so the TCM can adapt line pressure and shift timing to the fresh transmission and converter. A scan tool quick-learn is ideal where available.

Is a converter included?

Yes—each RoadReady 62TE package includes a matched heavy-duty torque converter, built and tuned for your specific application.

Cooling & maintenance?

Always flush or replace the cooler and lines, verify strong return flow, and refill with high-quality fluid that meets ATF+4 specifications. Set fluid level warm and recheck after the first few heat cycles.

*Coverage and terms can vary; always refer to the current warranty details on the product page.

Fluid heat & front-wheel-drive packaging

The 62TE lives in a tight front-wheel-drive package, surrounded by exhaust heat and constant stop-and-go driving. Long idles, short trips, and heavy passengers can push fluid temperature up, accelerating wear on clutches, bearings, and seals. That’s why a RoadReady build starts with a clean cooler, correct ATF+4-spec fluid, and careful attention to cooler flow during install.

Underdrive sealing rings, bearings & park components

Many 62TE complaints—slips, flares, harsh shifts, and delayed engagement—trace back to internal leaks and worn bearings. Updated underdrive sealing rings help keep apply pressure where it belongs, while refreshed bearings in the transfer unit cut noise and reduce drag. Updated park components help the trans drop into Park cleanly and hold reliably on hills.

Front planets & heavy-duty torque converter

Front planetary damage and converter issues are another weak link when a 62TE has been overheated or abused. Our RoadReady 62TE builds use updated front planets for better durability and a heavy-duty torque converter tuned for smooth take-off, clean lockup, and better torque transfer in daily use. The goal isn’t drag racing—it’s a van that feels solid and consistent again.

Installation checklist (62TE specifics)

  • Flush or replace the cooler & lines until you verify clean, strong return flow.
  • Confirm converter is fully seated and flexplate alignment is correct before pulling the unit to the engine.
  • Double-check harness routing, range sensor connections, and grounds near the case.
  • Inspect axle seals and intermediate shaft splines while the transaxle is out.
  • Fill with ATF+4-spec fluid, then set level warm using the proper 62TE procedure.

Fluid, relearn & city-driving strategy

After installation, clear adaptives where possible and perform a light-throttle drive cycle that rolls gently through each gear and lets the vehicle coast back down. Avoid full-throttle launches, heavy towing, or long highway pulls until the 62TE has gone through several heat cycles and the TCM has had time to adapt.

62TE FAQs (More Depth)

My old 62TE had a shudder or slip between gears—will this fix it?

In most cases, yes. The updated sealing rings, bearings, and converter—combined with clean cooler flow and fresh ATF+4—directly address the causes of shudder and flare. Just be sure the engine and tune are healthy and that cooler restrictions have been resolved.

Can I tow with a RoadReady 62TE?

Light towing within the vehicle’s rated capacity is fine, especially with a good cooler and fresh fluid. If the van is loaded or used commercially, pay extra attention to cooler capacity, fluid condition, and tire/gearing choices.

How often should I service the fluid?

In mostly city or hot-climate driving, shorter fluid intervals are cheap insurance. Talk to a Monster specialist for a recommendation based on your use, but many owners see benefits from more frequent ATF+4 changes on 62TE vehicles.
