Why Choose Monster for YOUR 4L70E

  • Tiered builds (Street → Sport → Track) matched to your vehicle’s weight, gearing, tire, and power.
  • Known weak points addressed: 3–4 clutch, sunshell, input drum, TCC PWM heat.
  • Matched converter included on every package for proper lockup control.
  • Dyno-tested, fully remanufactured units with up to 6-year total coverage.
  • Tech support, install guidance, easy core returns, and fast shipping.

4L70E vs 4L60E / 4L65E?

4L70E adds stronger hard parts (e.g., 5-pinion gearsets, upgraded input components) and is best for later LS applications. We still address 3–4 clutch and sunshell reliability.

Do I need programming?

Perform a transmission adaptive reset/quick learn with a capable scan tool after install. This helps seat clutches and align shift timing. Some builds may benefit from updated PCM calibrations.

Is a converter included?

Yes. Each package includes a matched lockup converter (multi-disc and higher stall options in upper tiers).

What fluid?

DEXRON-VI. Verify level at temp and ensure strong cooler return flow after flush/line service.

3–4 clutch & sunshell

The 4L70E inherits the 4L60-family’s sensitivity in the 3–4 clutch and sunshell. Our Street/Sport/Track tiers increase 3–4 capacity, update clearances, and use a hardened “Beast”-style shell and reinforced input components to survive heat and shock loads from towing, sticky tires, and higher power.

2–4 band/servo & apply timing

Servo apply timing and accumulator strategy are critical for shift feel and 2–3/3–2 durability. Our builds revise accumulator calibration and line rise for crisp, repeatable shifts without flare or bind—great for heavy vehicles and mixed street/track use.

Converter & TCC PWM

PWM lockup and towing can overheat the TCC. We include a matched lockup converter (multi-disc options on upper tiers) to reduce slip and stabilize lockup—keeping temps controlled on grades and during passes.

Cooling & deep pan

Run fresh DEXRON-VI, always flush/replace cooler & lines, and confirm strong return flow. A low-restriction auxiliary cooler and a deep aluminum pan help manage heat during towing and spirited use.

Installation checklist (quick hits)

  • Flush/replace cooler & lines; verify strong return flow
  • Fill with DEXRON-VI and set level warm per OE spec
  • Confirm converter engagement (3 clicks) before install
  • Verify linkage/range switch alignment after install
  • Recheck fasteners and leaks after first heat cycles

Adaptive reset / quick learn (overview)

After install, perform a transmission adaptive reset/quick learn with a capable scan tool, then run a light-throttle drive cycle—progressive upshifts and gentle coastdowns—to seat adaptives and protect fresh friction material.

4L70E FAQs

4L70E vs 4L60E/4L65E?

4L70E uses stronger internals (e.g., 5-pinion gearsets, upgraded input components) but still benefits from 3–4 clutch and sunshell upgrades for reliability.

Do I need tuning or programming?

Perform an adaptive reset/quick learn after install. Some vehicles may benefit from updated PCM calibrations for shift timing and TCC behavior.

Is a converter included?

Yes—every package includes a matched lockup converter (multi-disc options available in upper tiers).

What fluid and capacity?

Use DEXRON-VI. Capacity varies with pan/converter—verify level at temperature using the correct OE procedure.

How do I pick the right tier?

Daily/tow mild mods → Street. Heavier vehicles/sticky tires/track days → Sport. Competition or big power goals → Track.
