Follow this exact flow: READ → INSTALL → WRITE. Use a 20 Amp battery charger during read/write to prevent voltage drop. On the WRITE step: long-press WRITE and select Full Write (required to program the TCM properly).

READ (before removing the old 6L80)

This captures the current vehicle file so we can generate the updated file.

  • Vehicle in PARK, parking brake set.
  • Connect a battery charger.
  • Plug device into OBD-II.
  • Open app and complete READ/upload.

INSTALL

Complete the mechanical install before writing the updated file.

  • Install the replacement 6L80.
  • Verify connectors and grounds.
  • Fill fluid to spec and check for leaks.

WRITE (after install)

Write the updated file returned in the app (often within minutes of the read).

  • Battery supported, plug into OBD-II.
  • Select the returned updated file.
  • IMPORTANT: Long-press WRITE and choose Full Write. If you do not choose Full Write, it will not write the TCM properly.
  • Note: Full Write will write the entire ECM as well.
  • Do not interrupt the write process.
  • Follow any prompts (ignition cycle, etc.).
More detailed instructions (recommended)

Keep the vehicle voltage stable and don’t unplug the device during active read/write steps. If something fails, the most common causes are low voltage or connection issues.

  • WRITE selection matters: long-press WRITE and choose Full Write — this is required to write the TCM properly. Full Write also writes the entire ECM.
  • Low voltage: connect a charger/maintainer and retry.
  • Connection: stay close to the device and use stable service/Wi-Fi.
