What transmission fluid should I use with the RoadReady 10R80?

The RoadReady 10R80 requires Ford MERCON® ULV transmission fluid.

  • This RoadReady build uses approximately 13 quarts of MERCON ULV full synthetic fluid.
  • We recommend only using MERCON ULV to prevent shift quality issues or internal damage.
  • Always follow the correct Ford fluid level check procedure after installation.

Note: Do not mix MERCON ULV with other ATF types.

Is the RoadReady 10R80 an upgraded transmission?

The RoadReady 10R80 is an OEM-style replacement transmission for stock-power daily drivers.

  • OEM-style replacement: Best for stock power vehicles, daily driving, and dependable factory-style operation.
  • Matched torque converter included: The transmission includes a matched torque converter with the unit.
  • Fresh wear components: Built with fresh frictions, bushings, seals, and serviceable wear components.

This RoadReady unit does not include the StreetMonster upgrade package, deep pan, modified valve body, or performance-focused internal upgrades.

If you tow heavily, run added power, use larger tires, or want a stronger upgraded 10R80, we recommend stepping up to the StreetMonster 10R80.

Does the RoadReady 10R80 fix the factory 10R80 issues?

The RoadReady 10R80 is rebuilt as a dependable OEM-style replacement using fresh serviceable wear components.

  • Best for mostly stock vehicles and normal daily driving.
  • Includes a matched torque converter.
  • Includes fresh frictions, bushings, seals, and serviceable wear components.

The RoadReady build should not be confused with the StreetMonster upgrade package. It does not include the StreetMonster deep pan setup, modified valve body, revised CDF drum upgrade package, or performance-focused internal upgrades.

Should I choose the RoadReady or StreetMonster 10R80?

Choose RoadReady if your vehicle is mostly stock and you need a dependable OEM-style replacement for daily driving.

Choose StreetMonster if you want upgraded holding power, improved durability, and a build better suited for towing, added power, larger tires, or harder use.

Do I need to Tune or Flash the Transmission?

Yes — proper flashing and TCM relearn is required after installation of any 10R80 transmission.

  • You must use a Ford scan tool or equivalent to input the correct solenoid strategy code.
  • Follow the relearn procedure to calibrate shift timing and pressure control.

⚠️ This step is essential. Skipping it can lead to poor shifting, fault codes, harsh engagement, or internal damage.

Does this Transmission include Fluid?

No, fluid must be purchased separately. We offer special discounted prices and even cheaper shipping options when you bundle with our fluid at checkout.

How do I Return my Old Transmission Core?

Returning your core is simple. Once your old transmission is ready for pickup, you can start the return process online or call our Customer Service Team.

  • Use our Core Return Form to submit your pickup request.
  • Or call 800-708-0087 and our team can help schedule your return freight pickup.

Please Note:

  • The customer is responsible for return shipping.
  • A flat-rate fee of $364 will be deducted from your core refund to cover return freight and handling unless round-trip shipping was prepaid upfront.
  • The returned core must be the same model and not cracked or damaged beyond rebuild.
